Picnic among friends 2010

A Picnic among Friends was the first event of the Living with our Dead Project.
People were invited to pack a picnic lunch and to bring family and friends- living and dead to the event. It was a day of picnicking, of celebration and ceremony led by Victoria Spence.
It was held on Sunday November 7th 2010 at Girrawheen Park in Earlwood.
There were opportunities for everyone to exchange what your dead have passed on to you and to contribute to a collective memory tree. It was a great day for kids and adults alike.

For the event, there was a collective Memory Tree, where people were invited to bring and contribute a small photo, flower or organic object.

Another key activity was Passing it on…what do our ancestors, family and friends pass on to us?
For the picnic this was in the form of a handy or household hint, a recipe, and a maxim for life, a saying or everyday wisdom.

This Project was supported by The Australia Council for the Arts.

“Earlwood Remembers” a local community development project was supported by Canterbury Council through its Community Grants scheme.
